Institute organized Hortiindia during 2012 ‘The Year of Horticulture’ which was inaugurated by His Excellency Dr Iqbal Singh, Lt. Governor of Puducherry. Ministry of Agriculture and Food Processing, Govt. of India; Ministry of Chemical and Fertilizers, Govt. of India; Ministry of Statistical & Programme Implementation, Govt. of India; and Akhil Bhartiya Grameen Vikas Sansthan, Greater Noida were main supporters of the event.

It was a two days workshop-cum-exhibition based on the theme “Innovative Production Systems in Horticulture”. The Workshop cum Exhibition entitled “Hortiindia” was organized to demonstrate the innovative technologies to the farmers to empower them with the latest techniques. “Hands on training” was provided by the faculty and the foreign visiting faculty of the institute from Israel, Netherlands, Thailand and China.

Union Ministers, Senior Bureaucrats, Officials, Entrepreneurs, people from corporate sectors and thousands of farmers across different states of India attended the event with keen interest and enthusiasm. The Event got wide coverage by national newspapers, TV channels, especially a Krishi Darshan telecast for 20 minutes.

  • 2000 farmers and horticulture officers attended workshops
  • 10 workshops organized
  • Participation of about 100 organizations
  • 25 experts conducted workshops and delivered interactive lectures on different fields of horticulture
  • About 85 stalls were set up in the exhibition

Objectives

  • To demonstrate automation in fertigation under protected and open conditions.
  • To demonstrate the technique of fertigation and irrigation system for community clusters engaged in crop production.
  • To acquaint the growers with the production modules of high value vegetables and flower crops in protective conditions.
  • To demonstrate the importance and technique of quality nursery production in Horticulture to the growers and policy planners.
  • To seek face to face clarifications for the growers with national and international experts.
  • To provide blend of technology and practical training in hi-tech nursery production, greenhouse technology, canopy management, meadow orcharding and other relate areas.
  • To provide platform to the growers and entrepreneurs to interact with national and international experts.
